Many West Hartford residents may not be aware that a developer has planned a large, 172-unit, high-rise, rental building complex to be built on the site where the Children’s Museum now stands.
There will be a public hearing on a zone change for this site on Oct. 12, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. This hearing will determine whether and how the developer is able to proceed. The hearing will be held in Room 314 of the Town Hall at 50 South Main Street in West Hartford.
The Town of West Hartford’s Design Review Advisory Committee has cheerfully endorsed this plan and the Town Council is charging full steam ahead with the approval process.
But members of the community can raise objections and push for changes to the plan at this public hearing. Let West Hartford town officials know that it’s time to slow down this development boom. Retain the character of our community.
Growth is good, change is inevitable; progress is positive. But rampant over-development is inappropriate and unwise.
If you don’t want West Hartford to become a densely populated, traffic-snarled, over-built metropolis, come to the hearing on Oct. 12 at 7:30 and make your voice heard.

This article is missing the supporting evidence for “rampant over-development”. What about this proposal is problematic?
We NEED more development. We have a desirable town and need as much housing as the market will bear, to build our tax base and bring more vibrancy to the town. We need a more sustainable, walkable lifestyle and that requires a degree of density. Adding more housing also alleviates pressure on the home market and keeps homes somewhat affordable.
