Dear Editor:

We are writing in support of our friend Beth Kerrigan for Town Council.

People often don’t realize or simply forget that being a member of the Town Council is a volunteer position that requires much time and selfless dedication in representing the citizens of West Hartford and the town as a whole. Beth makes the demands of personal and political life seem easy to balance, although we know better.

Beth is tenacious, honest, hard-working and above all else, caring. She is never afraid to listen to anyone’s opinion even if they differ from her own, if the dialogue will lead her to ultimately making a better decision on the behalf of the town. She always seeks to understand the fine points of every discussion asking the tough probing questions to get to the point of that or any issue, and she does this fearlessly.

Being a tax paying citizen like the rest of us, Beth often applies common sense “home economics” when faced with spending the town’s money. Her decisions are deliberate and well researched and she never takes anything for granted as these decisions affect all of us.

We know of multiple instances where Beth has gone above and beyond in helping people in our community, with no fanfare or recognition. She has been a tireless volunteer in her children’s schools, their little league, local fundraisers, the Women’s March on Washington and in her fight for equality for all people.

For these reasons, we wholeheartedly and unreservedly endorse Beth for re-election for her second term on the Council.
