To the Editor:

On Nov. 7, I encourage you to vote for Barry Walters and the entire Democratic team on Row A for the West Hartford Town Council.

Barry has demonstrated commitment and dedication to our community that is inclusive of all. He has the experience and ability to help West Hartford continue to thrive and grow.

Barry comes from a military family and was born in a base hospital in South Dakota. Barry and his partner of almost 30 years, David, have lived in West Hartford for over two decades. They have raised a family here in town and their son, Devin, attends West Hartford Public Schools.

Since Barry’s arrival in town, he has been significantly involved with the community. Barry has served West Hartford as a Commissioner on the West Hartford Human Rights Commission for two terms and was a co-chair. He currently serves as a Town Council Zoning Alternate and sits in when a councilor is unable to attend a meeting involving zoning issues. In that role, I have found him to be attentive to detail, and he draws upon his degree in Urban Planning from the University of Arizona, in his decision making.

In his work in community health, Barry has experience with crafting policy by taking a pragmatic approach and working with all stakeholders to ensure that real solutions are identified for real problems. Barry recently worked with State Legislators and the CT Dept. of Public Health to increase access to HIV testing – a measure that is expected to reduce new infections and bring Connecticut one step closer to ending the HIV epidemic here.

Barry is passionate about ensuring our kids are safe and have opportunity to succeed to their fullest potential. This is a passion and focus that I share with Barry. I have no doubt he will be a strong advocate for our kids and great member of the Town Council. I am excited about Barry’s candidacy and I am happy to endorse him and the entire Row A team. I encourage you to vote for Barry and Row A this November 7th.

Sincerely,

Liam Sweeney
Deputy Mayor, Town of West Hartford
