Nicole “Coco” Roscoe, a resident of Hartford’s South End and a homeschooling mom, is running for the 6th State House District, the first Republican to do so since 2018.

Roscoe said she was prompted to run by the General Assembly’s support for recent bills that attacked the parental, medical, Constitutional, and religious freedoms of state residents.

“I never imagined running for public office. But sometimes there comes a moment when concern must become action. For me, that moment came after the recent homeschool and vaccine legislation. I decided it was time to move from the sidelines into public service. I want to be a representative who listens, who serves and who protects the freedoms that allow families, small businesses and local communities to thrive. My hope is to encourage more everyday citizens to realize that they, too, can step up, serve their communities and make a difference.”

Despite thousands of residents writing testimony and showing up at the capitol this year during the legislative session, the state Democratic majority passed bills adding regulations to parents choosing to homeschool and expanded the Department of Public Health’s authority over vaccinations. The Democratic majority this year also passed a ban on Glock handguns and similar pistols, outlawing the sale of one of the nation’s most popular handguns.

“This campaign isn’t just about the issues that motivated me to run. I believe too many Connecticut residents feel they’ve done everything they’ve been asked to do, show up, testify and participate in the democratic process, yet still leave believing their voices don’t matter. I want to help restore that trust and be a representative who not only welcomes civic engagement but genuinely values it.”

The 6th State House District includes the south end of Hartford along with a portion of Elmwood in West Hartford.

Roscoe and her husband have three children ranging in age from 8 to 13 years old. They’ve homeschooled their children since kindergarten.

She volunteers as a teacher in local homeschool groups, serves as a unit leader for girls ages 12-14 with American Heritage Girls, a leadership development program, and is active in her local church.

Roscoe says her years of serving families in the community have inspired her commitment to public service.
