Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) visited the West Hartford Senior Center on Tuesday, where he discussed Social Security and his bill, the Social Security 2100 Act with local seniors and then took questions from the audience.

“Social Security is not an entitlement, it is the insurance that you pay for through the Federal Insurance Contribution Act (FICA). It is your contribution. We need to work to expand and enhance this program so no senior can retire into poverty,” Larson told the audience.

“I have heard time and time again from seniors about how difficult it can be to make ends meet. My bill, the Social Security 2100 Act provides a benefit increase, a Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) that more accurately reflects seniors’ needs, cuts taxes for seniors, and ensures that one can retire into poverty,” said Larson.

The Social Security 2100 Act has the support over 170 Members of Congress. This bill will cut taxes for Social Security recipients, provide a benefit bump for current and future beneficiaries, and keep the system strong for generations to come.
