The Seniors Job Bank has received a $3,000 grant awarded by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, funds that will be used to help the non-profit organization extend its 37-year history of connecting people over age 50 seeking work to local businesses and households with jobs to be filled.
Sheila Diamond, Seniors Job Bank executive director said, “As a non-profit, volunteer driven organization, we depend on contributions from members of the community. This grant is most welcome and will be put to good use immediately.”
Headquartered in West Hartford, the Seniors Job Bank serves seven central Connecticut towns. It maintains a database comprising approximately 500 service providers, all of whom have passed a background check, offering over 300 distinct vocational and professional skills.
A client – company, household, or public agency – in need of assistance, upon calling SJB receives information about several service providers qualified to perform the specified tasks. The client evaluates the candidates, chooses one and negotiates compensation. There is no charge to either service provider or client for the referral.
Diamond explained, “We provide talented workers to handle one-time home repair chores and recurring household maintenance tasks, as well as traditional part- and full-time jobs for large and small commercial and other employers.”
“If you’re over 50 and looking to stay busy and earn some money, or if you manage a business or have a home that needs work done, give us a call at 860-521-3210, email [email protected], or visit www.sjbct.org,” Diamond added.
The grant is from the Stanley D. and Hinda N. Fisher Fund at Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, the community foundation for Hartford and 28 surrounding towns. In 2015 the Foundation celebrated 90 years of grant-making, made possible by the gifts of generous individuals, families, and organizations. It has awarded grants of more than $650 million since its founding in 1925. For more information about the Hartford Foundation visit www.hfpg.org or call 860-548-1888.
