The Afro-Semitic Experience will perform on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2024 at 4 p.m. at Congregation Beth Israel in celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

The Afro-Semitic Experience is a band that offers a powerful and poetic musical experience that celebrates diversity, promotes social justice, and inspires hope and joy. Blending Jewish and African-American music to create a dynamic and energizing sound, they celebrate the shared roots and cultural diversity of the Jewish and African-American communities. Their live performances are an exhilarating journey that has gotten audiences up and dancing throughout the United States.

The group was founded in 1998 by pianist and composer Warren Byrd and bassist David Chevan and has since expanded to include a diverse group of talented musicians. The band’s music draws from a wide range of influences, including traditional Jewish melodies, gospel, blues, and jazz. Beyond their musical achievements, The Afro-Semitic Experience is committed to promoting social justice and building bridges between communities. They use their music to promote understanding, empathy, and inclusivity, and have worked with a wide range of organizations and institutions to further these goals.
