Whole Foods Market – West Hartford will donate five percent of net sales on Thursday, Sept. 4, to the Hartford non-profit organization Billings Forge Community Works.
All Whole Foods Markets host four “5% Days” a year to benefit a local non-profit, said Kristin Arslan, marketing team leader for Whole Foods – West Hartford.
The store has worked in partnership with Billings Forge for a number of years, said Arslan. “We are so thrilled to be able to offer them this type of support,” she said.
Arslan provided the following description of the organization:
“Billings Forge Community Works is a driving force for community participation and empowerment in Frog Hollow through promoting access to healthy food; engaging youth; and developing employment opportunities and economically sustainable social enterprises. Billings Forge’s goals are fighting homelessness by improving housing opportunities, encouraging economic growth through business development in the surrounding neighborhood, creating job training, educational advancement and employment opportunities to Frog Hollow residents. They also strengthen family health through education, counsel and access to services encouraging self-help, civic engagement, and participation in every level of the community, and supporting a climate that values diversity, rewards independence, nourishes creativity, and brings all of us together.”
“We ask shoppers to come and do their shopping on Thursday, Sept. 4, and visit their table to learn more about Billings Forge Community Works: their kitchen, their studio, their farmer’s market and their garden and their amazing restaurant, Firebox,” said Arslan.
