Voting Now Underway for Best of West Hartford

The 7th Annual Best of West Hartford contest is now open.

By Ronni Newton

Voting opened Nov. 8 for the 7th Annual Best of West Hartford, and the link will remain open through 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 29, 2021.

During the next three weeks – which includes Thanksgiving weekend, you have the opportunity to choose your favorite West Hartford business – or in some case person, or association – in more than 50 categories. Each has the opportunity for a write-in vote, and when you get to the end you can add your own category and business or organization.

The award winners will be announced during an in-person event being planned for Monday, Dec. 13, at Westfarms. Details are still being finalized, and tickets will be available via EventBrite. While last year’s award presentation was virtual, the previous year’s celebration featured a standing-room only crowd at Fleming’s in Blue Back Square, and in prior years there was also a sell-out crowd.

“Westfarms allows us an opportunity to spread out based on pandemic requirements so we can feel comfortable and safe,” said Tom Hickey, president of 2020 MEDIA, the producer of the event.

“Please get out the vote,” said Hickey, noting that it takes hundreds (close to 1,000) votes to win a category after six years of previous BOWH contests. “It’s a tough competition” he added.

New categories have been added this year based on popular votes and/or write-ins from previous years, and Hickey said that every vote does count.

“This year a little creative license was enjoyed by the 2020 MEDIA team as they included some special opportunities for recognition during a once in a lifetime pandemic,” he said.

[Editor’s Note: Until I voted just before writing this, I had no idea that there was a new category of Best West Hartford “Cheerleader.” I did NOT vote for myself!]
