A round-up of openings, closings, and other news about West Hartford businesses.

This is a business column, not a weather column, but it looks like the weather might have plans to shorten the business week. Stay tuned!
In the meantime, there’s plenty happening in West Hartford, including Monday’s long-awaited opening of World of Beer. And we have another rumor to officially dispel this week.
If you have tips about businesses opening or closing, or doing something worth sharing, please provide that information in the comments or email Ronni Newton at [email protected].
Here’s this week’s buzz!
- Fleet Feet Sports is expanding into another storefront in the same building. According to Fleet Feet owner Steph Blozy, construction began Thursday on the 2,000 square foot space located just three doors down at 1003F Farmington Ave. They are hoping to complete the build-out in 6 to 8 weeks. Although the new store has not been officially named, Blozy offered the following description in an email: “What is for certain is that the store will be filled with women’s apparel and accessories including having the largest sports bra selection in Connecticut. This will allow us to have more space to dedicate to men in our main store (women’s shoes will still be sold in the main store). Just like we have a professional Fit Process to help folks find the best sneaker for their feet/gait, we’ll have a professional Fit Process to get women in the best sports bra for their needs.” Fleet Feet hopes to help remove breast pain as an obstacle to exercising. “Just like the right pair of shoes can help someone be able to run again, the right sports bra will help more women follow through on their desire to live healthier, more active lives,” Blozy said.
- World of Beer opens in West Hartford at 11 a.m. today! ICYMI, here’s the complete story with details about some of the unique beers and menu items from my sneak peek last week. We would love to have comments from anyone who checks it out on opening day. Who plans to try all 525 brews?
- Once again we have an item from “the news that’s news because there’s no news” department: Moe’s Southwest Grill is NOT closing. The popular burrito spot (a favorite with the teens in this household) at the corner of Raymond and Memorial in Blue Back Square, has been the subject of some recent speculation and the question was raised again over the weekend on the “Neighbors and Friends in West Hartford” Facebook group page. Moe’s Manager Teddy Harrison said that the rumor may have started because the restaurant recently changed its closing time from 10 p.m. to 9 p.m. “Business is good and we’re not going anywhere,” Harrison said emphatically.
- Non-profit businesses – don’t miss this opportunity for some free promotion. Connecticut by the Numbers is celebrating its third anniversary by offering free web ads for non-profit businesses on the state’s top-rated numbers driven website. Click here for details.
- According to HartfordBusiness.com, West Hartford accounting firms Massa & Co. and GitlinCampise have merged to form GitlinCampisePrendergast – adding the name of principal John Prendergast to the name. According to the article, Salvatore Giuliano will be managing partner and member of the 13-employee firm.
