In the span of a few days there were two kitchen fires in multifamily residences in West Hartford, and officials will be conducting neighborhood outreach in both of those areas to answer questions and provide important information about safety.
“Fires are very impactful and emotional events for those directly and indirectly affected,” Chief Greg Priest said Sunday after a fire in a fourth floor condominium unit on Kane Street. Just a few days earlier, there was a fire in a first-floor unit of a two-story apartment building on Steven Street.
There were no injuries in either of the incidents, and although the fires were contained to the units of origin multiple families have been displaced. In one of the incidents, officials noted that occupants chose to shelter in their units rather than evacuating.
Priest said in response to the recent incidents, personnel from the Operations Division and the Fire Marshal’s Office will be taking proactive steps to increase fire safety in the community by providing essential safety materials as well as answering questions about safeguarding homes and loved ones.
From 5 to 7 p.m., on Tuesday, March 12, fire department personnel will be on Steven Street followed by Kane Street.
“Your safety is our top priority, and we’re here to ensure that every member of our community feels safe, secure, and supported,” Priest said.
