Registration for the West Hartford Girls Basketball League 2024-2025 season will begin on Sept. 16 and remain open on a space-available basis through the end of October.

On Monday, Sept. 16, The West Hartford Girls Basketball League (WHGBL) will open registration for all its divisions. Registration will close on Thursday, Oct. 31, or sooner if all roster positions have been filled. Registrations are provided on a first come, first served basis.

Registration is $150 per player and covers uniform costs, equipment costs, game official costs, and other league operational expenses. If teams are not completely filled by Oct. 31, there will be a late registration period from Friday, Nov. 1, through Sunday, Nov. 10. The registration fee during the late registration period is $200.

The WHGBL was established to promote the fundamentals of basketball through commitment, teamwork, sportsmanship, fair play, hard work, and fun. This is done through an environment that is safe, positive, and enjoyable for all who participate. The goal is to foster self-esteem in each player regardless of talent level, to have fun and to create in each player the desire to be the best that she can be. Eligible players must either reside in West Hartford or attend West Hartford public or private schools.

The WHGBL is a teaching, recreational league teaching young girls leadership skills through the learning and understanding of the fundamentals of basketball. The league focuses on helping girls develop 10 core leadership values and skills, which are: confidence, teamwork, sportsmanship, humility, character, respect, integrity, responsibility, perseverance, and gratitude.

“With new stars like Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese coming from college hoops into the WNBA, we’ve seen an explosive interest in girls wanting to play the game of basketball,” said Shawn Daly, President of the West Hartford Girls Basketball League. “We’re anticipating that this excitement will reach young girls in West Hartford who want to learn the game and participate in the excitement of basketball, along with their parents who want their daughters to learn leadership skills.”

The West Hartford Girls Basketball League is composed of three divisions: the Minors Division (3rd and 4th graders), the Juniors Division (5th and 6th graders) and the Seniors Division (7th and 8th graders). The season runs from December 2024, through March 2025.

Those interested should register at the league’s website, www.whgbl.org as soon as registration opens.
