West Hartford Hosting Backyard Compost and Rain Barrel Sale

Back by popular demand, the Town of West Hartford will be offering barrels to be used for composting or collecting rain water.

Submitted by Katherine Breer Bruns, Recycling Coordinator

Spring is a great time to start backyard composting. Did you know: Compostable kitchen scraps are about 23% of what we throw away in trash?

Join our West Hartford community in its effort to decrease the volume of trash sent to garbage facilities. In doing so we help reduce methane and other greenhouse gas emissions, create rich nutrients for our soil and enjoy the satisfaction of adopting a new sustainability practice. Rain barrels and other items also available for purchase. Take a look!

For a discounted price, residents can purchase a compost or rain barrel and start reclaiming valuable natural nutrients for use in back yards. Click here for our online Compost and Rain Barrel store.

Purchased items will be available for pick up on Earth Day, April 22, from 4-7 p.m. at the Department of Public Works, 17 Brixton St. (Oakwood Avenue entrance on side of building).
