State Sen. Derek Slap on Friday was named Senate chair of the General Assembly’s Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee.

Slap, who was elected to his third term in November, has also been named vice chair of the Government Administration and Elections Committee.

In a statement, Slap said he is excited to once again chair the Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee. “With the legislative session just weeks away, I’m excited to continue my work leading this important committee and guiding the educational and employment decisions of our state as we look to make further progress on affordability, job training, and accessibility in higher education,” Slap said. “I look forward to my new role as vice chair of the Government Administration and Elections Committee especially at this critical juncture where we look to implement early voting across the state. This is an incredible opportunity and I am grateful to Senators Looney and Duff for their faith in me.”

“Senator Slap has been a tenacious leader on the Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee, and I know he will do an excellent job continuing his good work,” Senate President Martin M. Looney said in a statement. “I look forward to seeing his results in action in the upcoming term of the General Assembly.”
