Otis Worldwide has officially made public its plans to relocate its global headquarters, and has confirmed a 2027 move to the Town Center building at 29 South Main Street in West Hartford.

“We are thrilled to welcome Otis’ headquarters to West Hartford. As one of Connecticut’s most iconic global companies, Otis’ decision is a tremendous vote of confidence in our community,” Mayor Shari Cantor told We-Ha.com.

The Fortune 500 company, which is currently located in a leased building at 1 Carrier Place in Farmington, plans to lease just under 32,000 square feet in the West Hartford Center location which is also home to numerous prestigious financial services and professional services businesses.

“Harris and I are thrilled to welcome Otis Worldwide’s global headquarters to Town Center at 29 South Main Street,” said Bruce Simons, who with his brother Harris owns the Town Center building and is managing partner of Simons Real Estate Group.

“Otis is an iconic Connecticut company, and we’re honored that Simons Real Estate Group could provide the right home for them. We’ve invested heavily in the building to create the high-quality environment a company like Otis expects, and the Town of West Hartford has done an incredible job developing the Center into a place where industry leaders want to be,” he added.

Otis spokesperson Ed Jacovino confirmed the plans to We-Ha.com, noting that the relocation of the headquarters is planned for 2027. “Our presence and employment in Connecticut will not be affected,” he said. The West Hartford Center building is roughly five miles from the existing Farmington location.

“West Hartford offers a unique combination of a highly educated workforce, a vibrant town center, exceptional quality of life, and easy access to the region’s transportation network. We believe those strengths, along with our collaborative business community, make West Hartford an attractive place for companies to grow and innovate,” said Cantor.

“The relocation of Otis Worldwide’ s headquarters to West Hartford is a big win for our community,” West Hartford Economic Development Manager Kristen Gorski told We-Ha.com. “We are thrilled to welcome such an iconic company, and pleased with them choosing to build their new home in our downtown, adding further vibrancy to West Hartford Center and increased daytime population to support our local businesses. Otis’ continued commitment to Connecticut and new investment in West Hartford will be truly impactful on our town.”

Otis, which separated from United Technologies Corporation in April 2020 as part of the merger of UTC and Raytheon Company (now RTX Corporation), celebrated its 170th year in business in 2023, and in 2025 had $14.4 billion in net sales. The company employs roughly 72,000 people in more than 1,400 locations, and globally serves more than 200 countries and territories and has installed the elevators and escalators in some of the world’s most famous buildings, including the Space Needle in Seattle, the Vienna State Opera, and the Empire State Building, according to the Otis website.

“Otis is the global leader in the manufacture, installation, service and modernization of elevators and escalators. We move 2.5 billion people every day and maintain about 2.5 million customer units worldwide – the industry’s largest service portfolio. You’ll find us in the world’s most iconic structures, residential and commercial buildings, transportation hubs, and everywhere people are on the move,” the website states.

According to Jacovino, “Colleagues based [at the current Farmington headquarters include the office of our CEO, and global functional team members spanning Human Resources, Sales and Marketing, Communications, Investor Relations, Digital Technology, Finance, Accounting, Legal and more.”

Otis did not specify how many people would be located in the new West Hartford headquarters, but noted that Otis “has approximately 1,000 employees based in Connecticut.” Other than the headquarters, Otis has an elevator test tower in Bristol, a customer service center in Bloomfield, and field service locations in East Hartford and Shelton.

“We continuously assess our business operations and explore opportunities that support our strategic initiatives, help us grow and better serve our colleagues and customers and operate more efficiently,” said Jacovino.

Joel Grieco, an executive director with Cushman & Wakefield, represented Otis, noting that as the lease was expiring in Farmington, they took the opportunity to evaluate alternatives.

“We covered a broad geographic area, with consideration given to commuting patterns, access to amenities, quality of space, costs, and other factors,” said Grieco. “During this year long process, we identified an opportunity at Town Center that not only satisfied the programmatic needs of Otis’ World Headquarters, but did so in the heart of the most vibrant and sought-after submarket in all of northern Connecticut,” he said.

“The walkable amenities of The Center create a vibe and conveniences that are unmatched. As a global company, Otis saw a particular benefit from proximity to the Delamar Hotel,” said Grieco. “There’s no question that this will be exciting and energetic for West Hartford Center,” he added.

Cantor said Otis will be a great asset to the town, and is grateful for those who made it possible.

“I also want to recognize the efforts of Figure 8 Properties and the Town Center team in creating an exceptional workplace, as well as our Economic Development team for their ongoing work to foster a business-friendly environment. We look forward to welcoming Otis and its employees to our town,” Cantor said.

In the past few years, several other corporations have relocated their headquarters to West Hartford, including global insurance brokerage Lockton, and specialty insurance company Beazley, which both moved from Farmington to Blue Back Square. Ernst & Young will be moving its local headquarters to class A office space at 1001 Farmington Avenue as soon as renovations to the building are complete.

Existing tenants in the Town Center building include Bank of America Private Bank, Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, Raymond James, YHB Investment Advisors, and CLA (CliftonLarsonAllen) CPA firm.

A large portion of the ground floor of the Town Center building was recently being renovated, and Harris confirmed that it is being occupied by long-term tenant Bank of America Private Bank, which has significantly expanded its footprint. “They recently relocated and expanded into a newly constructed space on the first floor, and the finished space is stunning,” he said.

The space formerly occupied by Bank of America Private Bank will be taken over by Merrill Lynch. “Now that Bank of America Private Bank has moved into its new space, Merrill is in the process of consolidating its building operations into the former first-floor space and completing a significant upgrade,” said Harris.
