The West Hartford Methodist Nursery School community is grateful to the West Hartford Fire Department for keeping the community safe, and in honor of Valentine’s Day decided to do something to show their appreciation.
“We wanted to put a smile on their faces and let them know that their efforts do not go unnoticed,” said Lisa Brown, director of the West Hartford Methodist Nursery School. The preschoolers planned to create handmade Valentine’s Day for the crew at Station 5 – which is right up Berkshire Road from their school.
“In addition to the cards, we also decided to collect donations from our families for a pasta meal that the firefighters could cook at the fire station. We thought it would be a nice gesture to provide them with a home-cooked meal on Valentine’s Day,” Brown added.
On Feb. 14, pulling a wagon, the students walked to Station 5 to deliver the cards and donation of ingredients for a meal. The crew from that fire station comes to West Hartford Methodist Nursery School every October to teach the preschoolers about fire safety, and this was their chance to show their appreciation and give back to those who are always giving to the community.
“The firefighters were thrilled with the cards and the meal,” Brown said. “We could see the happiness and gratitude in their faces and we were happy to know we could make a difference in their day.”
