West Hartford Police Arrest Suspect in New Park Avenue Shooting

A 43-year-old Bloomfield man has been arrested in connection with the incident on Feb. 20.

West Hartford Police said Friday that a 43-year-old Bloomfield man has been taken into custody and faces a variety of charges in connection with a shots fired incident that took place on Thursday, Feb. 20, at 449 New Park Avenue.

Police, after collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses, identified a potential suspect and obtained a warrant. Members of the Detective Division and Community Support Unit located the suspect and on Friday arrested Taffarie Murphy, 43, on charges of unlawful discharge of a firearm, first-degree reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a firearm, and first-degree criminal mischief.

Police said Murphy was unable to post his $700,000 courtset surety bond and remains in custody. He will be arraigned at Hartford Superior Court on March 3.
