A West Hartford man is wanted on domestic charges that include kidnapping and assault, and West Hartford Police are asking the public to be on the lookout for him.
John Robinson, 46, of Woodlawn Street in West Hartford, was last seen in West Hartford on Monday, April 11.
According to West Hartford Police Lt. Ted Stoneburner, Robinson kidnapped a former girlfriend following a domestic dispute.
Stoneburner said that Robinson is under a one-year restraining order that went into effect on April 5, 2016. That restraining order listed Robinson’s address as 38 Westminster St., Hartford.
Connecticut State Police Troop G notified West Hartford Police Tuesday that the victim escaped from Robison’s custody “after a lengthy period of time” while he was getting gasoline at a rest stop on I-95 South in Milford. She was able to receive assistance from employees at the rest stop who also called police.
According to Stoneburner, police have learned that Robinson stopped in the north end of Hartford where he purchased and used drugs, and then headed south where he stopped to get gas in Milford.
Robinson is described as a black male, approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall with black hair and brown eyes. He weighs approximately 400 pounds. He was last seen driving the victim’s vehicle, a 2003 Toyota Sequoia color Silver with Maine registration 3690TD.
Stoneburner said that Robinson may be headed south to Alabama where his mother reportedly lives.
Robinson is wanted on charges of second-degree kidnapping, second-degree strangulation, and third-degree assault.
The victim was treated for minor injuries and released from a local hospital.
