West Hartford Police Nab Suspect in Reported Armed Robbery

Police arrested a West Hartford man for robbing a Subway restaurant while armed with what appeared to be a handgun.

West Hartford Police quickly apprehended a suspect who matched the description of a man who, armed with what appeared to be a handgun, robbed the Subway at 949 New Britain Ave. on Thursday night.

Police said that they responded to the report of an “active robbery with a handgun” at the Subway location at 9:55 p.m. on Jan. 3.

According to police, the suspect fled on foot, and was spotted behind the KFC across the street at 930 New Britain Ave.

Police said they quickly located a man who matched the description of the suspect, and took him into custody without incident. The suspect had an “airsoft-type handgun” in his possession, police said.

Julan Mickens, 19, of Boulevard in West Hartford, has been charged with first-degree criminal attempt at robber, illegal use of a facsimile firearm, and first-degree threatening.

Mickens was held on $250,000 surety bond and was due to appear in court on Friday.
