A West Hartford teenager who collided with a car while riding his bicycle Tuesday morning remains hospitalized, police said.
Police have now released the names of both parties involved in the incident.
The teen, Darren Chen, 15, of West Hartford, remains at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center where he is being treated for his injuries. His current condition was not provided by police.
Police said Tuesday that Chen sustained serious injuries, including “head trauma,” as a result of the collision. He was not wearing a helmet at the time.
Other sources have confirmed that Chen is a sophomore at Conard High School and a member of the school’s football team.
According to police, Chen was traveling north by bicycle on Federal Street at 7:51 a.m. Tuesday when he was struck.
The driver of the vehicle that collided with Chen has been identified as Kendall Fulton, 32, of West Hartford. Police said he was headed east on Hall Street, driving a 2004 Nissan Altima. Police said the car was inspected and “found to be mechanically sound and without any other defect.”
Police have not charged Fulton at this time.
There is a stop sign for Federal Street at the intersection with Hall Street, but no stop sign for traffic on Hall Street, police said.
The intersection was closed for several hours following the incident, and the West Hartford Police Crash Reconstruction Team is continuing to investigate.
