Pedestrian and road safety is on the mind of many in West Hartford and the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission wants to do its part in bringing important and helpful information to the town’s older adults.
At their upcoming April 15, 2025 meeting, the West Hartford Senior Citizens Advisory Commission will be joined by the chair of the West Hartford Pedestrian & Bicycle Commission in hosting a panel presentation to hear what actions are being taken to address the town’s rising safety concerns through community education, public engagement, road engineering and local law enforcement.

In February 2024, West Hartford became the first municipality in Connecticut to adopt a Vision Zero Action Plan producing a comprehensive and data-driven safety plan to eliminate fatal and severe injury crashes in the town. The SCAC’s goal is for older adults to become a vital part of this town-wide solution and take the “Vision Zero Safe Roads for All” pledge!
Presenting will be Ed Pawlak, chair of the Pedestrian & Bicycle Commission; Parker Sorenson, Civil Engineer II for the town’s Engineering Division; and Ofc. Stephanie Hannigan and Ofc. Jeffrey Swank of the West Hartford Police Department Traffic Division.
This event is free of charge.
The meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Bishops Corner Senior Center, 15 Starkel Road, West Hartford. The panel presentation will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
