On Sunday, March 31 at 3 p.m., community members are invited to join the West Hartford Symphony Orchestra for its 2019 Family Concert.
This concert will be a unique performance never done by this orchestra before. The concert, to be held at Kingswood Oxford School’s Roberts Theater, 170 Kingswood Rd., West Hartford, will feature The Ballet Theatre Company of West Hartford as they put on a live dance performance to some of America’s most celebrated music.
This exciting event is sure to delight audiences of all ages, featuring musical selections written specifically for dance including Richard Rodgers’ Carousel Waltz, the Pas de deux from Carousel, and George Gershwin’s An American in Paris Suite. The dances are choreographed by Artistic Director Stephanie Dattellas of the Ballet Theatre Company.
This exciting collaboration between WHSO and the Ballet Theatre Company is more than just a concert – it is a family event celebrating local dancers and a truly unique opportunity to see a live dance performance accompanied by a live orchestra.
This family concert is a must-see event for everyone with a young and aspiring dancer in their life and will include a special event for young dancers. WHSO Board President Tom Caraher, notes: “If there’s a little dancer in your life, bring him or her to this event in costume and participate in our VIP reception, where dancers of all ages will have a chance to meet the performers and have photos taken with dancers and orchestra members.”
As part of WHSO’s Family Concert, children age 15 and under and any dancer in costume will be admitted free of charge. General admission is $20 and senior/student tickets are $15. Tickets can be purchased online at WHSO.org or by calling 860-521-4362. Donations of lightly-used dance costumes will be gratefully accepted at the concert and will be shared with local young dancers in need.
