It’s Throwback Thursday (#tbt), and time to take a look back into West Hartford’s past to either stir up some memories, reflect on how much things have changed, or both. And if you have no idea, we love the photo captions, too!

There’s not a lot to say about the responses to last week’s photo (at right and in larger size below), because sadly we didn’t get any comments …

The photo was taken on Farmington Avenue scene in June 1966. The Economy Cleaners and the tailor shop were in the building now occupied by Arugula. The building to the right is where Daswani is now, but it’s either a different structure or a completely modified façade. The Hair Color Company is now to the right of that building, across the alley.

We’ve got a great image for this week’s step back into history (at right and in larger size below), and I hope it brings back some memories. Where was this business located? What is in its place now? Do you have any memories of visiting this spot?

Please share your thoughts and memories below. Captions are, of course, always welcome.

Thank you to the Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society for providing us with the images. For more information about the organization, visit www.noahwebsterhouse.org.

  • Clearly DeLmonico’s on So Quaker Lane… owner/operator John Felice (spell?)who later opened and ran Rockledge prior to Angel Faenza …

  • Delmonico’s was an old standby which morphed into several different restaurants including Seafarer and a steakhouse before ultimately being renovated into ProHealth Physicians. At the time it was Delmonico’s, there weren’t too many restaurants in West Hartford…Howard Johnsons’s on Farmington Ave., Maple Hill in the Center but nothing like the 189 restaurants we have now.
