A Hartford woman was killed late Friday night when she lost control of her car and crashed into a tree on Albany Avenue (Route 44) just west of MDC Reservoir No. 6 in West Hartford, police said.

Breanna Isaac Segundo, 33, of Hartford, was headed east on Albany Ave. in a 2004 Saab 9-3 just before midnight when the crash occurred. She was the sole occupant of the vehicle and no other cars were involved, police said.

When police arrived the car was on fire but West Hartford Police Sgt. Aaron Vafiades and bystanders at the scene were able to pull Segundo from the vehicle before it became completely engulfed in flames.

Several police officers and other first responders immediately treated Segundo at the scene before she was transported to St. Francis Hospital. She died at the hospital, police said.

At the time of the crash the road surface was wet and there was dense fog.

According to West Hartford Police Capt. Jeff Rose, speed was a likely factor in the crash. Toxicology tests will be performed, he said.

Albany Avenue has reopened to traffic but the West Hartford Police Crash Reconstruction Team is continuing to investigate. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact West Hartford Police at 860-523-5203.
