Best Cleaners celebrated the official ribbon cutting of their new location at 17 Sedgwick Road in West Hartford on Nov. 18, welcoming town officials and Chamber of Commerce members, and presenting a sizable donation to a local organization that like the business is known for its focus on the environment.

Best Cleaners prides itself on utilizing an environmentally-friendly method of dry cleaning, and has earned a Green Circle award from the Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. Best Cleaners was one of the first cleaners in Connecticut to convert to an eco-friendly dry cleaning process, GreenEarth, and was recognized in 2002 for voluntarily implementing a facility-wide pollution prevention plan.

Best Cleaners Owner and President Shawn McCann presented a $1,000 donation Thursday to Westmoor Park, the 162-acre environmental education center which is run by West Hartford’s Department of Leisure Services but is self-funded.

“We are excited to be in the West Hartford community and truly appreciate the warm welcome we have received,” McCann said. “We are impressed with the passion and commitment that community members have for their town, and happy to support the educational and recreational programs offered at Westmoor Park. Their mission is important and impacts all of us in Connecticut.”

The third generation, 67-year-old, family-owned dry-cleaning company leased the vacant location that had previously been occupied by Victoria Cleaners – and prior to that by Sedgwick Cleaners – in June 2021. They completely renovated the interior space, and had a soft opening in late October. Best Cleaners, founded in 1954 by William McCann Jr., is based in Middletown, and the West Hartford storefront is their 14th location.

They offer same-day GreenEarth cleaning, as well as onsite tailoring and shirt laundering, and free delivery service. The company is also known for a commitment to customer care and community service.

Best Cleaners is currently wrapping up its statewide “Coats for Connecticut” campaign, held in collaboration with other local businesses. The business collects and cleans gently-used winter coats and warm clothing, which are then delivered to Salvation Army centers.

The West Hartford location is open Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m.-6 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Items dropped off by 9 a.m. (8:30 a.m. on Saturdays) can be ready for pick-up by 4 p.m. the same day.
