Conard Girls Swimming and Diving moved to 7-0 on the season after a pair of wins against perennially tough Farmington and Southington last week, and a win over Newington on Oct. 19.

On Tuesday, Oct. 11, the Red Wolves traveled to Miss Porter’s School where they faced a Farmington team that featured significant top end speed, but lacked the over all depth needed to secure the all too important fourth- and fifth-place points.

Conard was able to place first and third in the 200 Medley Relay behind the combined efforts of Aspen Rosner, Tess Sherry, Liv Sherry, and Claire Dombrofski, and Cecelia Peck, Ella Hall, Ella Switzer, and Claire Haverly. The Red Wolves went on to outscore the River Hawks 9-7 in the 200 freestyle with Jane Harhay, Meghan Jo, and Lyla Harhay’s 2-3-4 finish.

Rosner, Dombrofski, and Haverly also combined for a 2-3-4 finish in the 50 yard freestyle, putting the Red Wolves up 34-28 at the diving break. Conard’s Ali Colburn, Rachel Giroux, and Gabrielle Alekshun swept diving, giving the Red Wolves a significant advantage as they moved into the second half of the meet up 47-31.

The Red Wolves went on to outscore the River Hawks in three of the last seven events with Liv Sherry, Rosner, and Lyla Harhay taking 2-3-4 in the 100 freestyle and Peck, Rosie Alonzo, and Gracie Lowney doing the same in the 100 Backstroke, and the combined efforts of T. Sherry, L. Sherry, Dombrofski, and J. Harhay winning the 200 Freestyle Relay, and Haverly, Rachel Matthews, Sophia Pincince, and L. Harhay locking up third. Tess Sherry’s first place finishes in the 100 Butterfly and 100 Breaststroke wrapped up the meet for Conard who close the day with a 97-87 win.

On Friday, Oct. 14, Conard faced their second tough opponent of the season when they traveled to Southington to take on the Knights. Conard’s depth was on display again, with Conard out scoring Southington in seven of 12 events, and splitting four others 8-8, winning the meet 91-77.

The Red Wolves kicked off the meet with an impressive come-from-behind win in the 200 Medley Relay (Aspen Rosner, Tess Sherry, Liv Sherry, Claire Dombrofski). Claire Dombrofski started the final leg of the race a half second behind Southington’s final swimmer, going on to out touch her by a margin of four one hundredths of a second.

Individual wins for the Red Wolves included Tess Sherry in the 200 Individual Medley and 100 Backstroke, Rosner in the 50 Freestyle, and Liv Sherry in the 100 Butterfly and 100 Breaststroke.

The combination of L. Sherry, Rosner, Dombrofski, and Jane Harhay won the 200 Freestyle Relay, pushing the Red Wolves to a score of 72-52 with just three events to go. The Red Wolves wrapped up the meet with another come-from-behind victory in the 400 Freestyle relay (Claire Haverly, Dombrofski, Harhay, and T. Sherry), where Sherry started the race over a body length behind Southington’s final swimmer and won the race by a body length – posting Conard’s season best 400 Freestyle Relay time of 3:52.01.

Conard also defeated CCC West opponent Newington on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at Cornerstone Aquatic Center, improving to 7-0 over all and 5-0 in the CCC West.

Individual winners at the Newington meet, according to Twitter, include Rachel Mathews (200 Free), Jane Harhay (200 IM and 100 Back), Cecelia Peck (50 Free), Meghan Jo (100 Fly), Gracie Lowney (100 Free), Tess Sherry (500 Free), and Ella Hall (Breaststroke).
