Two local nonprofit organizations dedicated to developing emerging Jewish leaders, JTConnect (Jewish Teen Learning Connection) and Hillel at the University of Hartford, are launching a new student fellowship program to increase the number of Jewish teens involved in educational engagement activities. The Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Hartford is supporting the JTConnect & Hillel Student Fellowship Program with a three-year Community Grant.
The new paid fellowship will involve a contemplative hiring process, selecting an outstanding student from the Hillel at the University of Hartford who will mentor students and support activities that will deepen their engagement in Jewish traditions, leadership, and community life.
“Now more than ever, high school and college students are looking for meaningful connections with their peers and young adults as their leaders,” said Caroline Poland, Executive Director of JTConnect. “Our new JTConnect and Hillel Student Fellow will help us cultivate nurturing and vibrant Jewish environments where students can learn and grow together.”
The JTConnect & Hillel Student Fellowship Program will integrate support for students in standing up to and combating antisemitism. Through training sessions, events promoting open dialogue, and strategies for responding to anti-Jewish hate on campus; the program aims to empower teens with knowledge and resilience.
“We are thrilled to partner with JTConnect on this transformative fellowship program,” said Lisa Langsner, Director of University of Hartford Hillel. “Bringing together Jewish high school and college students will not only strengthen our community in Greater Hartford but also create lasting connections and foster a deeper appreciation for our shared identity. This collaboration underscores our commitment to nurturing future Jewish leaders and empowering them to make a positive impact both on campus and beyond.”
“First and foremost, the Fellowship will inspire Jewish joy among students and highlight the beauty of Jewish heritage and traditions,” said Poland.
The JTConnect & Hillel Student Fellow will also support JTConnect’s inclusive programming, bridging the gap from high school to college and illuminating pathways to Jewish campus life.
