To the Editor:

There seems to be a growing trend to downplay political affiliation around here. For me this info is critical. I may not necessarily agree with everyone who’s in the same party as I am, but it’s important to know when a candidate agrees with significant political platforms and that is shown in local races largely by affiliation.

When a candidate fails to identify up front whether they’re Democrat, Republican or other, it may mean that they don’t want to carry the baggage they think comes with it. I get that. But voters have a right and need to know. There is important power and public messaging associated with who’s seen to win or lose races – and it affects much from local all the way to national decision-making.

So I’m sincerely asking We-Ha News and other news outlets to please ensure that party addition/identification is up front for every candidate to elected office. I’m also asking the candidates to ensure that info is prominently displayed on their signs and all other campaign materials.

Taking a position on local politics is vital, but voters also deserve to know which party positions you support simply by being active members of a party.
