Organizers estimate 1,000 will “rock the red” in the 5K and kids run.

The race, which begins and ends at the Rose Garden in Elizabeth Park, is open to women and girls of all ages and experience levels. The HMF FitKids Run includes options of 100 yards, 1/2 mile, and 1-mile distances.

Prizes will be awarded for the fastest runners in various age divisions, as well as prizes for top mother/daughter teams.

The Red Dress Run is also a fundraiser to support Girls on the Run of Greater Hartford, an organization “dedicated to girls’ physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness.”

Music, fresh food, and a Finish Line Village will be available in Elizabeth Park following the race.

The HMF FitKids Run begins at 8 a.m. and the 5K begins at 8:30 a.m. Roads will be closed beginning at 8:15 a.m., and organizers urge all participants to arrive by 8 a.m.

There will not be any parking available in Elizabeth Park. Parking will be available in the former University of Connecticut parking lot on Trout Brook Drive, and a free shuttle bus will be available from 6:30-8 a.m. and following the race.
