The owner of Wagging Tails Pet Resort & Spaw reported that items belonging to the business and to employees were stolen on Christmas Day and provided images taken by their security cameras of two men who are suspects in the theft – which has been reported to the West Hartford Police Department.

Wagging Tails’ owner Krista Lofquist said the business was open on Wednesday when the two men entered around 1 p.m.

Security cameras captured images of the two men entering the lobby of the business, which is located at 635 New Park Avenue. They “looked around, looked right at the security camera, and then brazenly reached over the counter to take personal items belonging to our staff, the business, gifts from clients, and retail products. And ran out the door,” Lofquist said in a message to We-Ha.com. The credit cards belonged to staff, and a business credit card as well as gifted cash tips and personal cash were taken.

According to Lofquist, the thieves used the stolen credit cards in New Britain and Hartford, and attempted to use the cards online as well.

Due to the nature of the business, Wagging Tails was open on Christmas Day. “Pets need our care 365 days a year. They don’t know that it’s a holiday – right!? So the dedicated employees at Wagging Tails Pet Resort and Spaw work hard 365 days a year, with pet care offered 24/7 and yes, on holidays, to provide loving care, and much fun to pets, while their parents travel,” she said.

“Fortunately no person, or pet was harmed. These men were not anywhere near our furry guests,” Lofquist said. When the theft occurred, staff members who were working on Christmas Day were occupied with the pets, but now have to endure the hardship of having money stolen as well as canceling credit cards.

West Hartford Police said they are investigating the incident.
