Once again, there is some exciting news to report regarding the Conard girls basketball team!

With a 58-43 victory over crosstown rival Hall on Friday night, Jan. 23, the Conard girls qualified for the Class LL state tournament for the first time since 2004 when they ended the season with a 10-10 record. Conard’s current record is 8-5, their best record through 13 games since the 1996-97 season. This is just the fourth time since 1988 that Conard has qualified for the state tournament since 1988 (1996, 1997 and 2004 were the other three times), after qualifying every year between 1973-88.

High scorers for Conard included Dezyree Morales and Nicole Kradas both with 14 points and Delaney Connors with 13 points. Hall’s high scorer was Madison Mandyck.

Even though it’s not Conard or Hall related, there’s some more positive news for the Connors family. Delaney Connors’ older sister, Haley Connors, a senior at Northwest Catholic, scored her 1,000th point in a game vs. Simsbury on Jan. 13. She finished the game (a 58-52 victory by Simsbury) with 22 points. According to her mom, Amy Connors, Haley is just the eighth woman to score 1,000 points at Northwest Catholic. In November 2014, Haley signed a Letter of Intent to play basketball at Division I Bryant University next year.
