The fall sports season always seems so short, and many teams are already at the mid-point, highlighted by the first of the home/away Conard vs. Hall competitions. Hall topped Conard this week in all of those contests.

On Monday, Sept. 29, the Hall girls soccer team battled back from a 2-0 deficit to beat Conard by a score of 3-2. Chantelle Swaby, Melanie Binkhorst, and Kyanna Alleyne scored for Hall, and Kate Gosselin had both of Conard’s goals. The game was played under the lights at Conard’s McKee Stadium.

The crosstown rivals also competed in girls volleyball on Monday, Sept. 29, with Hall the winner over Conard 3-0.

The boys soccer teams squared off Tuesday, Sept. 30, under the lights at Hall’s Robinson Stadium. A large and vocal crowd, including the Conard Tribe and the Hall Reservation, was in attendance to cheer on the teams.

Hall was up 2-0 at halftime with a pair of goals by Josh Weisenberg scored in the first five minutes of play. Hall’s Jack Monnes scored early in the second half, pushing the lead to 3-0. Conard soon answered with two goals, scored by Siggy Arnason and PJ Melly, but Monnes put the icing on the win with his second goal, kicked in with just over 6 minutes left in the game. The final score was Hall on top by 4-2.

Cross country scores are difficult to track because many of the meets are invitationals held out of town. We thank the parents and friends of the runners for updates so that we can keep the public informed. Some recent successes include a second place finish for the Conard girls and a third place finish for Hall boys in the Large School races at the Manchester (New Hampshire) Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 27. Hall’s Ari Klau was second and teammate Grant O’Connor was sixth. Lindsay Chen, in 15th place, was the top finisher for the Conard girls.

Both Conard and Hall were victors in football last week. Hall remains undefeated at 2-0 and travels to Simsbury Thursday night (7 p.m.). Conard, 1-1, hosts New Britain at home Thursday night at 6 p.m.
