A man charged with robbery of the Westfield Bank branch in West Hartford Center was arrested by warrant by West Hartford Police on Sept. 6, 2024, and remains in custody, Lt. Ryan Riley said Wednesday.
The West Hartford Police Department’s Detective Division conducted the investigation of the robbery, which occurred at approximately 4:59 p.m. on Aug. 19, 2024, at the Westfield Bank at 977 Farmington Avenue, police said. The suspect passed a demand note to a bank teller, according to police, and after obtaining an undisclosed sum of money he fled on foot.
“Within days of the robbery, detectives were able to successfully identify and interview the suspect. An arrest warrant was sought and approved, charging the suspect for his involvement with the robbery,” police said.
The suspect has been identified as Harold Zene, 54, of Hartford. He was taken into custody on Sept. 6, and charged with second-degree robbery and fifth-degree larceny in connection with the incident.
Police said Zene was unable to post his $150,000 surety bond, and was arraigned in Hartford Superior Court on Sept. 7. He remains in custody and is due back in court on Oct. 21, according to online court documents. Online records also indicate that Zene was previously convicted of first-degree robbery with a firearm threat in 2018 and sentenced to a seven-year jail term.
