There have been multiple reports of ATVs and other vehicles not licensed for road use caravanning through West Hartford and other area towns – particularly on weekends in the summer months – but few reports of crashes or injuries.
Sunday afternoon, West Hartford Police confirmed that a person operating a moped/scooter collided with a Mini Cooper on New Britain Avenue near Red Robin, across from Westfarms. The investigation into the incident is underway, and police did not say whether or not the moped/scooter was licensed.
“It appears the operator of the scooter/moped fled the scene on a red “quad” and as of this writing has not been identified,” West Hartford Police Sgt. Amanda Martin said in an email to We-Ha.com Monday morning.
“There were no life-threatening injuries reported and there were no transports to the hospital,” Martin said, but because the operator of the moped/scooter fled, the full extent of the injuries to are unknown.
Multiple Facebook posts about the incident noted that there was a large caravan of ATVs, scooters, and other vehicles on New Britain Avenue on Sunday.
A WFSB reporter spoke with the driver of the Mini Cooper following the crash, who said her vehicle was t-boned by the scooter.
