Flyers promoting white supremacy from the “New England Nationalist Social Club” were strewn around multiple West Hartford neighborhoods on Monday, and Sgt. Amanda Martin said West Hartford Police are working in conjunction with state and federal law enforcement to investigate the incident.

The flyers were found on various streets, including Whitman Avenue, Walton Drive, Braeburn Road, Willowbrook Road, Brookside Boulevard, Greensview Drive, and in Fernridge Park, Martin said. The message on the flyers states that the group is “building a network of like-minded men and women defending their lands and their people,” and denounces “criminal anti-American and anti-white street gangs,” specifically naming Black Lives Matter, MS13, and Antifa.

The case has also been forwarded to the West Hartford Police Department’s Detective Division for informational purposes, Martin said.

The Anti-Defamation League describes the New England Nationalist Social Club as a neo-Nazi group espousing racism, antisemitism, and intolerance in online posts, and said members see themselves “as soldiers at war with a hostile, Jewish-controlled system that is deliberately plotting the extinction of the white race.”

In a news release Tuesday, the Connecticut chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CT) condemned the distribution of racist flyers to neighborhoods in West Hartford.

“This disturbing incident is a reminder that racism continues to be promoted in our society,” CAIR-CT Chair Farhan Memon said in a statement. “We condemn the distribution of this hateful propaganda and stand in solidarity with all the residents of West Hartford.”

Memon said that CAIR and the American Muslim community “stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, and white supremacy.”
