Each year, visual arts and literary arts organizations from across the country team up to bring the Scholastic Awards to local communities. Teens in grades 7–12 apply in 29 categories of art and writing, and submissions are juried by luminaries in the visual and literary arts. They look for works that best exemplify originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision. Last year, students submitted nearly 320,000 works of art and writing to the awards.
Awards include Gold Keys, Silver Keys, Honorable Mentions, or American Visions & Voices Nominations. All award recipients are celebrated within their communities through local exhibitions and ceremonies.
This year, works from four Kingswood Oxford students received recognition in the competition. Megan Dalton ‘17 of West Hartford and Jason Meizels ‘19 of West Hartford both received a Silver Key, and Emma Henry ‘21 of South Glastonbury and Tally Holcombe ‘19 of West Hartford received Honorable Mention.
Their works are as follows:
The preeminent independent co-ed, college preparatory day school in Greater Hartford, Kingswood Oxford School is located just steps from Blue Back Square and West Hartford Center. Its 508 students come from 62 towns in Connecticut and western Massachusetts as well as China and South Korea.
