West Hartford Public Schools has announced the graduation date for the Class of 2020.

West Hartford’s Conard and Hall high schools will both hold commencement ceremonies for the Class of 2020 on Monday, June 15, 2020.

Superintendent of Schools Tom Moore announced the date to the Board of Education Wednesday night, and received unanimous approval.

The state previously required districts to wait until at least April 1 to set their graduation date, but Moore said that the state changed the law to allow the date to be set earlier, as long as there will be at least 180 days of school. It was a change particularly important for districts where a venue must be rented for their ceremonies.

In West Hartford, having graduation on a Monday could tie the celebration into the weekend, and announcing it earlier will “give families a little head start to know when graduation is,” Moore said.

The original last day of school was to have been June 11, but there have been two snow days during the 2019-20 academic year, plus the schools will be closed on Presidential Primary day, April 28. As of now, the last day of school will be June 16.

More specific information that graduates and their families will need to know about commencement will be forthcoming later this spring directly from the high school administration.
