The driver of a vehicle that crashed through the plate glass windows of Dry Kleaning by McKleans in Bishops Corner on Friday afternoon did not appear to sustain serious injuries, West Hartford Police said.

The store, however, was damaged and closed Friday afternoon, and may need to remain closed over the weekend, police said.

Police said the incident was reported on Friday,, Aug. 25 at 1:16 p.m. Police and West Hartford Fire Department crews responded to the incident at Dry Kleaning by McKleans at 2477 Albany Avenue on the report of a vehicle that had struck and entered the store, and upon arrival discovered the vehicle – occupied only by the driver – completely inside the building.

The operator was extricated, police said, and “transported to a nearby hospital for precautionary examination and care.” The extent of the driver’s injuries were not known, but did not appear to be serious according to police.

Assistant Chief Larry Terra said there is no information available regarding what caused the incident, which remains under investigation by the West Hartford Police Department Traffic Division.

The vehicle, which was removed and towed from the scene, was an Infiniti.

Police said damage to the building is being assessed by the West Hartford Fire Marshal’s Office. Customers are urged to call the business (860-523-8406) prior to going there over the weekend in case the store needs to remain closed.

This is not the first time that a vehicle has crashed into one of the businesses in this Bishops Corner Shopping Center. The driver of a Honda Pilot crashed into McKleans in 2021, and there have reportedly been other incidents.
