Fr. David Cinquegrani, renowned for his exquisite presentation of music at Holy Family Retreat Center in West Hartford, will share his knowledge of and passion for music in an exciting new series launching Sept. 29.
“Discovering the Heart of Music,” a survey of musical treasures through the centuries, will be offered in four parts over the next two years. Part One runs for six weeks beginning Sept. 29 and features an overview of music from the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Baroque periods.
Class meets at Holy Family Tuesdays from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Sept. 29, Oct. 6, 13, 20, 27 and Nov. 3. Part Two begins Feb. 9 and looks at music from the Classical, Romantic and Twentieth Century periods. The cost for each six-week program is $300.
Retreat director at Holy Family since 1999, Fr. David holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music from Marywood University and has been a music educator on the college level for more than 30 years. He says he was inspired to do this program because all of us “receive” music in a unique and personal way.
“Each piece of music in history has a story,” said Fr. David, “but when it is received, it takes on new life and new meaning. I am excited to gather a group of “receivers” to experience various styles of music composed over the centuries and to share insights into the meaning and message of each composition. It will be both enjoyable and intellectually stimulating to travel the musical journey together.”
Holy Family Retreat Center is located at 303 Tunxis Rd. in West Hartford. For more information or to register, visit www.holyfamilyretreat.org or call 860-760-9705.
