An event planned for April 26, 2025 will raise awareness about a critical issue: the need for a legal mandate requiring mandatory wellness checks for 911 hang-up calls. This initiative aims to prioritize safety and ensure that no call for help goes unanswered or overlooked.

The event, titled “Beyond the call transforming 911 responses” will take place at the Elmwood Community Center in West Hartford , CT, and is being hosted by resident Chaquana Wooding.

“This will bring together concerned citizens, community leaders, and advocates. Through this gathering, we’ll be shedding light on the gaps in the current system and advocating for meaningful change to protect individuals in vulnerable situations where a simple hang-up might signal a silent plea for help,” Wooding said.

Special guest speakers include West Hartford Police Chief Vernon Riddick and Dr. Tasha Rose, owner of Let’s Talk About It Counseling Services.

Doors will open at noon and the event is scheduled to conclude by 4 p.m.
