Iron & Grain’s iconic Chevy Viking has been spending the summer traveling to farmers markets and other events throughout the state, but on Aug. 25, the food truck will be parked right in West Hartford and guests will have the opportunity to enjoy “Fire & Hops!” – a four-course beer dinner.

West Hartford resident Tate Norden, and his cousin, chef Adam Belward, launched the Iron & Grain food truck concept last year, and the business has already gained an enthusiastic following. Belward is a former military dog handler, a veteran who has served in Iraq and Afghanistan and then attended the Culinary Institute of America.

Iron & Grain’s menu emphasizes locally-sourced fair cooked over a wood-fired grill in the refurbished Viking, and craft beer is a natural complement to many of the flavors.

The menu remains a secret, but according to Iron & Grain will begin with a “welcome beer cocktail” followed by four courses, each paired with a local beer or cocktail to enhance the culinary experience. Three of the courses will be savory and one – presumably dessert – will be sweet, he said. Selections from Black Hog Brewing Co., a craft brewery based in Oxford, CT, will be featured because they pair well with food according to Norden.

A portion of proceeds from the pop up at the Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society will be donated to the non-profit. Norden said in a news release that he chose the museum “because he has a real interest in supporting organizations that make West Hartford special. The opportunity to partner with a like-minded and innovative organization and, in particular, support education, made the choice of the Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society ‘obvious,'” Norden said.
