To the Editor,

I’m writing to urge my fellow Democrats to support Owen Eagan for probate judge in the upcoming August 9 primary.

Although we don’t often think about the probate judge, they make important decisions about the lives of our friends and neighbors on a daily basis. Probate judges interact with us at our most vulnerable; they handle adoptions, name changes, emancipation rights, trusts, estates, and conservatorships, among other things.

The sensitive nature of these cases demands a judge who is compassionate and fair, someone with the experience and empathy to do the job well for West Hartford. Owen has those qualities. He is a lifelong town resident with a remarkable record of service to our community. A former town councilor and deputy mayor, Owen has been an attorney for close to three decades. He is also a longtime advocate for transparency in government, and was a youth football coach for many years.

I know he will make an excellent probate judge—that’s why, as a member of the Democratic Town Committee, I voted to endorse him in May, and why I’m voting for him again on August 9th.
