GLASTONBURY – The Hall Warriors scored 21 unanswered points in the second half on their way to a 35-14 CCC Tier 1 victory over Glastonbury Friday night.
The Warriors were led by senior running back Leo Perreira who rushed 21 times for 88 yards and two touchdowns, and senior quarterback Eli Salomons who completed 12 passes for 239 yards and two touchdowns. Junior wide receiver Angelo Culmo pulled down six receptions for 126 yards and a touchdown.
“Very proud of the efforts of the entire team,” said Hall Coach Frank Robinson. “We have been fortunate to make plays when needed. “
The Warriors opened the scoring late in the first quarter with a quick two play, 36-yard drive. Salomons connected with junior receiver Angelo Culmo for 31 yards and Perreira scored from five yards out on the next play to put the Warriors up 6-0.
The Warriors extended their lead to 14-0 in the second quarter following a five play 81-yard drive. Salomons connected with Perreira on a 60-yard screen, followed by a 20-yard strike to senior Logan Murphy to set up another Perreira touchdown from seven yards out. Salomons found Murphy again for the two point conversion.
Despite the Warriors strong start, Glastonbury rallied to tie the score just prior to the half. The Guardians marched 58 yards on eight plays and scored on a 19-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Jack Anglim to Jack Hennessy and scored again with just under one minute to go in the first half as Anglim connected with wide receiver Patrick Serksnas for the late score.
Robinson said he was proud of the way his defense responded in the second half to hold the Guardians scoreless. “We have been dealing with adversity all season,” he said. “Our players’ perseverance has been admirable.“
The Hall defense opened the second half strong, forcing Glastonbury into a three and out. Hall then marched 67 yards on 14 plays and scored on a key fourth down and goal play as Salomons connected with Farber in the corner of the end zone to put the Warriors up 21-14.
Mid-way through the third quarter, Sal Bakari made a big fourth down stop, bringing down Glastonbury tailback Jack Petrone behind the line of scrimmage to give the Warriors favorable field position. Three plays later, Salomons connected with Culmo for a 50-yard touchdown pass to extend the Hall lead.
The Warriors closed the scoring in the fourth quarter behind several strong rushes from junior Ryan Zydanowicz. Zydanowicz scored from nine yards out to cap a three-play, 22-yard drive.
Robinson said he was proud of how strong his team finished the game on both sides of the ball, but stressed the need not to be satisfied with progress so far. “We need to continue to get better every day,” he said.
The Warriors improve to 7-0 on the season and return home next week to face Maloney (6-1) on Friday, Nov. 5, at Chalmers Field. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
