West Hartford Police are continuing to investigate an incident involving a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on South Main Street in West Hartford.

A pedestrian was taken to the hospital with what police said appear to be serious but non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle on South Main Street in West Hartford Center shortly after 1 p.m. on Saturday.
West Hartford Police and West Hartford Fire Department personnel responded very quickly, and provided emergency medical care at the scene.
Police said it appears that the pedestrian was struck by a vehicle headed northbound on South Main Street.
Police completely closed South Main Street in both directions between Farmington Avenue and Memorial Road while the West Hartford Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team was investigating the incident. As of 4 p.m. the roadway remained closed, and motorists were being detoured.

Police ask that pedestrians as well as motorists seek alternate routes during the investigation, and 5 p.m., police said the road was reopened.
The vehicle operator, who according to witnesses remained on the scene, did not report any injuries.
Information about the individual who was injured, or more details about the nature of the injuries, was not provided.

I hope they are okay. I predict an avalanche of people blaming the driver or the victim. It’s the design of the road that is to be blamef. There’s no reason to have 30-40 mph traffic in the heart of Town Center. Remove some lanes, slow the traffic and build Webster Plaza.
Cue all the no development people
I agree with you 100%. I walk or bike to the library and Blue Back at least 2-3 times a week. Crossing South Main is always the hardest part, with large speeding cars regularly blowing red lights. You have to keep your head on a swivel. We’re not the only developed country with distracted drivers and pedestrians, yet we’re the only one with rising roadway deaths. It’s the design of our roads, and probably also the design of our cars. West Hartford needs to prioritize traffic calming and narrowing South Main.
Driving around here not for the faint of heart…Recently relocated here from Utah: I’m astounded by the number of cars running red lights in and around WEHA. Alarming number of tailgaters/speeders/aggressive drivers too – challenging driving environment.
No doubt pedestrians must be vigilant in these high volume traffic areas. I support WEHA Police Department however enforcement of traffic laws could use much improvement. Stay safe folks.
