The West Hartford police and fire departments are holding a competition, but the real winners will be those who need the gift of life.

“Battle of the Badges,” a blood drive that pits the fire and police departments together in an effort to see who can get the most donors to give blood, will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 10, from noon-5:30 p.m., in the West Hartford Town Hall auditorium.

The winning department will receive a trophy – and bragging rights – and the American Red Cross will be able to help more people who desperately need blood. Both departments are asking all eligible donors to “save the date and maybe a life.”

Donors will have the opportunity to mark off which department they are donating on behalf of when they arrive at Town Hall.

To register in advance, call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or register online at www.redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code WHTH.
