In the spring of 2004, the newly formed West Hartford Women’s Chorale of 14 women, a director and accompanist gave their first concert in a modest room at Hall High School. The repertoire consisted of three pieces, one a medley of Gershwin songs for “girls” to stretch the performance time.
Please join the WHWC, now 80 members strong, for their concert, The Power of Women’s Voices, to celebrate 20 years of bringing beautiful music to the community on June 7, 2024, at St. James’s Episcopal Church, West Hartford, at 7:30 p.m. In 20 years the WHWC has grown to incorporate formal concerts, community performances, an intergenerational festival of women’s voices, community projects and annual scholarships to support student musicians.
Repertoire for this concert embraces the voices of many women from the poetry of Emily Dickenson to the empowered voice of Fanny Brice in “Don’t Rain on My Parade.” The concert program includes female composers Elaine Haganberg, Emma Lou Diemer, Chiara Cozzolani, and Rosephanye Powell.
Come help celebrate the Chorale’s wonderful 20 years. If you have ever sung with the WHWC, come back and join us for this momentous anniversary.
Tickets are $15 and can be purchased in advance at the WHWC website at: https://www.whwchorale.org/tickets.
Tickets will also be available on the door on concert night.
