In West Hartford, the town’s three library branches and the senior centers serve as cooling centers, although they are closed on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4. Westfarms is also a suggested place to beat the heat, as are the outdoor pools.

With a long-duration heat wave expected to impact Connecticut this week, Gov. Ned Lamont is ordering the state’s Extreme Hot Weather Protocol to be activated effective at noon on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, and remaining in effect through at least 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, 2026.

The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for most of the area during this period, and Connecticut has the potential to reach the warning-level criteria. Peak temperatures are expected during the afternoon hours of Thursday, July 2, 2026, and Friday, July 3, 2026, when highs are expected to reach 100 degrees and heat indices could climb up to 110 degrees each day.
