West Hartford Resident To Sing at Carnegie Hall

Chai-lun Yueh (www.chailun.com), an award-winning baritone and resident of West Hartford, will be featured as the baritone soloist at the prestigious Carnegie Hall on Monday, Feb. 16. The concert is presented by Distinguished Concert International New York. He will be singing the baritone solo: Ode to Yellow River from Xian Xinghai’s famous Yellow River Cantata at concert “Two Cultures – One Dream” (http://www.dciny.org)

As artistic director of Kang Hua Singers of Greater Hartford, music director of Connecticut Women’s Chorale, he will also lead about 100 choir members, vocal students from different towns in Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York.

Chai-lun Yueh is an award-winning artist, an exciting and dramatic baritone with a rich and powerful voice, a music director and voice educator, first Chinese born classical musician received the nomination of the Grammy Awards, winner of Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions of New England Region, finalist at Luciano Pavarotti International Vocal Competition, and a grant recipient of New York Women Composers.

His recently released CD album of “24 Italian Songs and Arias,” a real joy of Bel Canto of the 17th and 18th centuries, has won The Prestige Music Awards of Gold in 2012 and The Global Music Awards (Award of Excellence, Male vocal, classical) in 2013. CD album of “Infinite Time”, a collection of the best and well-known Chinese art songs from the early-mid 20th centuries, also received Gold Award from The Prestige Music Awards in 2013.

After graduating from the Central Conservatory of Music of China with the highest honor, Mr. Yueh received his Artist Diploma and Master of Music degrees from The Hartt School, University of Hartford. He continued his advanced studies with Mrs. Marlena Malas, one of the greatest voice professors in the nation, at The Julliard School and Manhattan School of Music in New York City.

Over the last two decades, Mr. Yueh worked closely with many distinguished artists, directors and conductors such as Sir. Yehudi Menuhin, Gino Bechi, Sherrill Milnes, Nancy Milnes, Anton Guadagno, Yves Abel and Adelaide Bishop. He has been successfully portraying in leading roles in opera such as Tonio, Rigoletto, Giorgio Germont, Escamillo, Marcello, Sharpless, Count Almaviva. His voice has been heard at The National Opera of China in Beijing; Austin Lyric Opera, Baltimore Opera, Connecticut Opera, Hawaii Opera, Opera Theater of Connecticut and among many others.

As the baritone soloist, Mr. Yueh has performed at Carnegie Hall, Stern Auditorium, Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, Chicago Symphony Hall, Boston Symphony Hall, The Strathmore Music Hall in Washington DC, Jordan Hall in Boston, Woolsey Hall at Yale University. Mr. Yueh has also performed in Europe including Vienna, Salzburg, Paris and Prague.

Currently he is teaching at Wesleyan University and Trinity College; Serving as Chairman of the Concert Committee and Board of Director with CONCORA, Connecticut’s premier professional choir; Music Director of Connecticut Women’s Chorale; Artistic Director of Kang Hua Singers of Greater Hartford. He has been actively giving Vocal Recitals, Master Classes and Vocal Workshops in the United States and China including Washington DC, New York, Chicago, Boston, Beijing and others.
