What’s Open and Closed on Labor Day in West Hartford

Monday, Sept. 7, is considered a holiday in observance of Labor Day. Federal, state, and local government offices are closed but many retail businesses will remain open.

Trash, recycling, bulk, and metal collections during the week of Sept. 7 through Sept. 11 will be delayed by one day. Monday’s collections will be done on Tuesday; Tuesday’s collections will be done on Wednesday, with each remaining day of the week during this week being one day later. Please check the website, www.painesinc.com or call Paine’s, Inc. at (860) 844-3000 with any questions.

Holiday-related closings on Monday, Sept. 7 include:

  • West Hartford Public Schools
  • Town Hall and School administrative offices
  • All West Hartford Library locations
  • Recycling Center at 25 Brixton St.
  • Elmwood Community and the two Senior Centers will be closed.
  • Most banks
  • U.S. Post Offices
  • State Government offices
  • State courts

Liquor stores are permitted to be open. Most supermarkets and retail stores will be open, and most restaurants will run on their usual Monday schedules.

State parks and beaches will be open. At many beaches, Monday will be the last day that lifeguards are on duty.

West Hartford will host a free, family-friendly pops concert at Town Hall. Picnics are permitted, and the concert begins at 5 p.m. Click here for more details.
